Leire, Jubilee Walk

There is parking available on the Leire Playing Field carpark located on the Frolesworth Road heading out of Leire to Frolesworth (LE17 5HP). The circular walk starts at the car park and you head South East across the playing field to the point of the field picking up the Public Footpath. Follow the public footpath on the crest of the railway cutting. When the public footpath turns right and heads across the field please ignore that and carry on along the crest of the railway cutting until you arrive at the steps down to the path of the railway and head back along the cutting towards Leire. Shortly after passing the restored 'plate layers' brick hut on your left you will turn left up a gravel ramp to the Leire Playing Field car park. The walk is identified with silver way-markers.

The Jubilee Walk is a beautiful and serene 2km (1.2 mile) circular walk from the Leire Playing Field car park along the top of the railway cutting and then returns along the railway cutting back to the Leire Playing Field car park. Work by the Leire Jubilee Walk Volunteer Group ensure that it is kept clear for walkers. Considerable work has been done to improve the walking conditions whilst retaining the natural beauty of the site. Some picnic tables have been provided. It is also possible to walk to Ullesthorpe along a permitted path and a public footpath adjacent to the golf course. It is also possible to walk into the centre of Leire via the Station Lane footpath that forms part of the Leicestershire Round.
It is quite a rich area for flora including Dusky Crane's-bill which is uncommon in VC55, Common Mullein, Common Twayblade and Cowslip. It also supports a rich fauna, including a variety of beetles, hoverflies, dragonflies, butterflies and moths.
