Suede Bolete - Boletus subtomentosus
Young caps of Boletus subtomentosus are hemispherical and downy, becoming smooth and sometimes cracking as the fruiting bodies mature. When fully expanded, the caps range from 4 to 8 cm in diameter. The tubes and pores are chrome yellow, darkening with age.
Found singly or in small groups under broad leaf trees, mainly in calcareous regions.
August to October.
Widespread in Britain, though not particularly common.
Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland.
