Sandy Carpet - Perizoma flavofasciata
Easily distinguished from its allies by the pale sandy-brown markings on a whitish ground colour.
Inhabits woodland, commons, chalky ground and other dry areas.
It flies from dusk onwards in June and July.
The larvae feed on the seed-pods of various campions (Silene spp.).
This species is fairly common and widely distributed throughout England, Wales and southern Scotland, as well as parts of Ireland. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.
Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident).
