Peritrechus geniculatus

Length 5 to 6 mm.  Peritrechus species have only one or two small spines on the front femora. As in Scolopostethus, a pale spot is present at the sides of the pronotum, although this is not always obvious. P. geniculatus is similar to P. nubilus but the 3rd antennal segment is as thick, or thicker, than the 1st and the pronotum is more elongate. The markings on the upper surface are also usually slightly duller. 

Detailed examination of the specimen is needed to identify the species (a photograph alone is not normally sufficient because key features are too small or hidden).

Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used and describe the size and identifying characters.

Dry grassland and waste areas.

Adult: all year.  Overwinters as an adult, becoming active in the spring.

Fairly frequent in the southern part of Britain, particularly in the south-east.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
