Description

A robust greyish inkcap usually growig in clumps and clusters.  The cap is egg-shaped and rounded when young but expanding into a bell shape as it ages, eventualy with a split, blackened and uplifted margin.  The cap is radially grooved and grey, covered in with small brown scales from the centre.  Gills are greyish, soon blackening and deliquescing.   The stipe is white with a ring zone.

Habitat

Stumps, logs and buried wood in woodlands, parkland, gardens, etc..

When to see it

Spring to autumn.

Widespread and abundant everywhere (Kibby, Vol.3, 2021)

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
