Canadian Goldenrod - Solidago canadensis

Vigorous medium to tall plant with erect stems to 1.5 metres. Densely leafy, leaves pointed and toothed. Flowerheads golden yellow 5 to 6mm each with 10 to 17 short rays in broad pyramidal panicles.

Canadian and Early Goldenrod are very similar. Canadian Goldenrod has hairy upper stem and leaves, whereas Early Goldenrod leaves are hairless (except on the side veins).

Leaves serrate, at least near apex; roughly hairy on both surfaces and stems hairy at least in top half

Casual now well established as a wild flower - probably originally naturalised from garden stock.

British records are mainly from central and southern England.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 76 of the 617 tetrads.
