False Chanterelle - Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca

Description

A yellow-orange funnel shaped toadstool with deep orange-coloured gills.  The gills are forked, narrow and closely packed, very unlike the gill-like wrinkles of true Chanterelle.  Note that there is a pale cream coloured variant, referred to as ‘variety pallida’.

Habitat

Usually found in conifer litter but occasionally with deciduous trees.

Autumn.

Widespread and common in Britain.
