Getting There

The site is located on Barrowden Road, heading south from Ketton/Geeston, beginning at the end of the houses and ending at the fork in the road. The A43 is the closest main road.

From the A43, exit northwards onto Back Lane/Ketton Road/Geeston Road, and turn left onto Barrowden Road before the railway line.

Some roadside parking is available by the houses on Barrowden Road, but please be mindful of residents and signage.

Description

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2003, Ketton verge is a 1-kilometer-stretch of Barrowden Road, on both sides of the road. The main habitats are mesotrophic grassland, calcareous grassland and mixed grassland.

Wildlife Highlights

Recorded species include: Greater Knapweed, Hoary Plantain, Knapweed Broomrape, Agrimony, Common Bird’s-foot Trefoil, Black Knapweed, Common Restharrow, Field Scabious, Meadow Buttercup, Meadow Vetchling, Red Clover, Rough Hawkbit, Burnet Saxifrage, Cowslip and Bulbous Buttercup.
