Getting There

Hooby Lane connects the A1 to Cottesmore Airfield. From the A1, turn westwards onto Hooby Lane at the roundabout, then take the left fork to remain on this road. The verge begins at the fork and ends approximately half-way to the airfield.

Some parking may be possible by the verge, particularly by the airfield, but please be mindful of traffic and private land.

There is no bus service to this area.

Description

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2011, the Hooby Lane Greetham verge is approximately 582 metres in length, on the southern side of the road only. The verge is roughly 3 metres wide, and the main habitats are calcareous grassland and mixed grassland.

Wildlife Highlights

Recorded species include: Agrimony, Greater Knapweed, Field Scabious, Burnet-saxifrage, Salad Burnet, Small Scabious, Black Knapweed, Cowslip, Yellow Rattle, and Devil’s-bit Scabious.
