Getting There

The site begins in Great Casterton which is next to the A1. Exit the A1 into Great Casterton, and take the left turn onto Pickworth Road. The site ends at Mounts Lodge, halfway to Pickworth.

It may be possible to park by the verge, but please be mindful of traffic and private land. Alternatively, roadside parking is available in Great Casterton.

Description

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2006, Pickworth Road South verge includes both sides of the road, with the east side being 1.1 kilometers in length, and the west side 1.35 kilometers. The main habitat is calcareous grassland.

Wildlife Highlights

Recorded species include: Agrimomy, Greater Knapweed, Restharrow, Hoary Plantain, Salad Burnet, Purging Flax, and Field Scabious.

In addition, Spiny Restharrow (an L&R Rare Plant Register 2007 species) has been recorded at this site.
