Description

An extremely clustered brittlestem with conical yellow-brown caps that darken and expand with age. Gills grey-brown to purplish-brown; spore print brown. Stems are white and hollow, with many stems arising from a common root-like base.

Photograph whole clump in habitat, plus individual fungus from top down, in side view and from underneath to show gills and full length of stipe.  Note habitat and substrate.

Usually in grass, on buried wood; often in churchyards, cemeteries, parkland
