Note there is no vehicular access. Park at Exton and walk east along the footpath for c1.5 miles.

Description

These ancient fishponds lie within Exton Park, around 2 miles south-east of Greetham. Trees, marsh and calcareous grassland surrounds the two ornamental lakes.

Wildlife Highlights

Green Figwort Scrophularia umbrosa, Pyramidal Orchid Anacamptis pyramidalis, Autumn Gentian Gentianella amarella and the hybrid rush Juncus x diffusus have been recorded.

The ponds attract good numbers of wildfowl, including several rarities. The surrounding parkland holds Corn Buntings, and Quail are sometimes heard in summer. Singing Hawfinches have been observed around the ponds.
